Small Employee Perks for Small Businesses

Small Employee Perks for Small Businesses

Looking at creative companies today, it can seem like you’re expected to provide your employees with ever more extravagant perks. Firms provide their staff with yoga studios, holidays and free gadgets, when once they wouldn’t have gone much further than a holiday bonus. If you run a small business, it can seem impossible to reach these lofty heights of employee benefits. But you can show appreciation to your staff in many small ways, without blowing your budget. Try introducing some of these little perks to your workplace to help foster a happier and more productive environment.

Recreational Activities

Being tied to a desk all day is unlikely to have a positive effect on your employees. Although they probably already get at least one break a day, some companies choose to be a bit more generous. One idea is to have spontaneous breaks, when everyone can elect to leave their desks and go outside for a few minutes. You could also do away with scheduled break times and let everyone choose when they need to pause their work. You can also make sure there are recreational activities for lunchtimes and after work, ranging from running clubs to video game sessions.

Snacks and Beverages

You don’t need to be able to afford a cafe or catered lunches to provide food and drink for your staff. If you want to keep them fed and watered, you can look into water cooler rental, install vending machines or keep a well-stocked fridge and cupboards. Providing healthy snacks and juices will ensure that your employees can have something to perk them up, rather than make them even more lethargic. And, of course, tea and coffee facilities are always appreciated too.

Dog-friendly Offices

If you’re a dog lover, the idea of offering a dog-friendly office might appeal to you. It’s a perk that won’t cost you anything, but could mean that staff are more relaxed and happier at work. They won’t be worrying about their beloved pet and can concentrate on their duties. Plus, animals are therapeutic, and a dog or two could help everyone to take a moment out of their busy day to relax. Just make sure that all office dogs are well behaved and can get on with others.

Health and Fitness

Many more companies are starting to focus on keeping their staff healthy in both body and mind. One of the ways they do this is by offering wellness programmes to help them work through any personal issues, from weight loss to stress. But there are other ways you can encourage a healthy workplace. Some examples of things you could offer are on-site yoga classes, a fitness boot camp in the mornings, evenings or weekends or gym classes. You can also set up work running or walking clubs, among other things.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to create a better working environment and culture. It’s easy to show your staff you care in small ways, as well as big ones.
