Ways to Save Money When Buying Retail Goods
The world is very much a consumer world. Wants and desires from the people for products that make them feel good or make their lives easier fuel businesses to create these products to then sell to the consumers for as much as they can.
A business will typically multiply their cost of producing a product at least 2 before they put it up for sale to the market. That’s the general rule at least, but often, companies will mark up their product much higher than that. It’s a game. Business aim to make the most money possible off of their product or service. It’s why they do what they do. The trick as the consumer is to not be a guinea pig to corporate testing and to know when a company is ripping you off and/or giving you a product that isn’t worth the price.
Be Strategic
You’re the one spending the money in the end. Play the game just as strategically as the retailers, and you can walk out of stores having saved money instead of spending a week’s worth of pay on a t shirt. If you can train yourself not to impulse buy or not to buy things that you know are marked up a ridiculous amount, don’t spend your money there. Develop a shopping strategy and watch the savings roll in.
Figure Out Days Things Get Marked Down
Retailers have a schedule they work by. New product comes in on X day and that same day, clothes on one side of the store get marked down 10%. The next week, more product comes in and new clothes get marked down and the ones previously marked down get marked down even more.
This is the time to shop. The very day things get marked down. You get the things you’ve been eyeing for weeks before others snag them up. You don’t pay the inflated prices. All it took was a little research and diligence on your part. Things will always go on sale. You might have to take the gamble and wait.
Only Shop Sales
A good rule of thumb to have for yourself is to never buy something full price. You’ll always be paying a premium for a product if you buy it before it’s had a chance to sit on the hanger for a while. It’s tempting to want to buy something because it’s cute or just what you’ve been looking for, but why do you need it this instant? If you look for the sales in everything you buy, you’ll have more money to shop more sales. It’s a pretty simple and effective concept.
